If your printer uses manual leveling, follow the same guide for instructions on the leveling process.

I'm new to the 3D game, having just acquired a hand-me-down (9-10 years old) printer.
The person I got it from mentioned that he always used painters tape on the bed to get the parts to come off easier. As may be expected, I was having a lot of problems getting anything to print properly. One of the things I noticed is that the filament would not stick to the painters tape well. After making all sorts of adjustments to the nozzle etc, it still just didn't stick.
Somewhere in all of my internet reading I came across the Wham Bam flex plate. Flexing a metal plate looked a heck of a lot easier than what I was doing with a putty knife! I ordered the flex plate with the no build surface. What a difference! I had to adjust the nozzle height again, but that was the last time I adjusted it! The first layer goes down well, and it just sticks. I will say that I give it a quick spritz with IPA before every build to keep the surface clean. If I wait for the plate to cool the print comes off very easily. If I don' want to wait, I just pull the plate up and bend it away from the print and it comes right off. SO much easier than before! This was a relatively inexpensive addition/upgrade for the printer. Well worth it!
The owner also has some helpful videos on printing, and an especially good one about leveling the bed. Other videos I've seen refer to how much tension you should have with the obligatory piece of paper. Like “the same amount of friction as if you were writing on the paper.” What the heck is that? He had a useful trick that is repeatable, and even has a program for the printer than makes moving the print head simple. That was free information and the download of the program was free. You can't beat that!
